Drag the paint bucket to fill like a brush or touch and hold the bucket the fill the entire character. You can PLAY, PAUSE, STEP and SCRUB through your animation to scrutinize every frame to get it just right. You can ADD SOUND and time your animation to sync with lips, action or anything. IMPORT MOVIES to draw over or use as reference to help you learn to animate.Īnd of course you can SHARE your movies with friends on social media pages. Note: this review is based on my experiences with the free version of the app - it's entirely possible that some of the problems I've run into are fixed in the paid version, but with no indication of that in the trial, I'm not currently inclined to upgrade, even at such a low price.Īs a piece of animation software, FlipPad is highly intuitive and easy to use. The pencil and pen tool both look better than the defaults I've seen in a lot of other animation programs, chiefly due to their traditional-media texture look (always been a sucker for traditional cels).įrame rate and individual frames' timing can be changed on the fly, and there's a dedicated button for flipping back and forth between adjacent frames to check movement. As for the light table/onion skinning feature, the ability to set your onion skin to any frame in a sequence is a game-changer for sketching out looping sprites, or for making sure that your frames transition neatly across multiple poses. This is a feature I'd love to see more software start to incorporate, and I'm happy to see it here. However, I have run into quite a few bugs over the course of my time with the app, as well as some serious limitations that make me hesitate to use it for finished work:ġ) Bugs - Several times, I've had the brush abruptly switch to a gigantic size without my touching the brush controls. It places a large dot somewhere on the canvas without me having touched stylus to screen. I've been able to remove this by hitting Undo, so it's not a serious issue, but it seems to be recurring when switching from one frame to another - especially when you have a higher frame count.
